Contact Lenses Care

There are various methods used to insert contact lenses. Your doctor will instruct you in the method he thinks is the easiest and most natural for you. Regardless of method, you will have to learn to overcome the natural tendency to blink as you insert the lens.

The first step in inserting a lens is to remove it from its case and rinse it with saline; this is especially important if you use chemical disinfecting solution. Place the lens on the tip of the finger, concave side up. Since the lens is so flexible, you may have easily flipped it inside out during cleaning and rinsing. Be careful to check the lens to make sure it’s right side out. To do this you should place the lens, concave side up, on the tip of your finger. Check the profile; if the edges are straight up or turned in slightly, the lens is correct and ready for insertion. If it’s inside out, the edges will flare out slightly. If you’re still not sure, you can pinch the lens between thumb and forefinger. If the edges bend toward each other easily like a Mexican taco, the lens is correct. If it’s not, the edges will flare out.

Place the lens on your saline-moistened fingertip, give it one last check to see that there are no foreign particles on the surface, and it’s ready to insert using one of the following methods. (Reverse directions if you’re left-handed.) After insertion blink firmly a few times to help the lens “settle.” If there are any air bubbles under the lens, massage it gently through the closed lids and blink hard a few times to remove the bubbles.

METHOD # 1 Easist way of Wearing Contact Lens

1. Wet the tip of the index finger of the right hand with saline.
2. Place the lens, concave side up, on the tip of that finger.
3. With the middle finger of the right hand, pull down the lower lid.
4. Look up.
5. Place the lens on the white part of the eye, below the cornea. Make certain that the lens is on the eye and not adhering to your finger.
6. Release the lower lid and blink firmly.
7. Gently massage the lens with eyelids closed.

METHOD # 2 Correct Wearing Contact Lens

Same as Method # 1 except that you:

1. Look toward your nose.
2. Place the lens on the white of the eye that is exposed (between the cornea and the outer part of the eye).

METHOD #3 On the Go Way of Wearing Contact Lens

1. Place the lens on the tip of the middle finger of the right hand.
2. Elevate the upper lid with the index finger of the right hand.
3. Retract the lower lid with the thumb of the right hand.
4. Place the lens directly on the cornea. 5. Release the eyelids.
