How to Wear Soft Contact lens (Centering Soft Contact Lens & Removing Soft Contact Lens)
Centering Soft Contact Lens
It’s rare for a soft lens to decenter off the cornea because it clings so well to the surface of the eye. However, it can happen —usually when it is inserted or removed incorrectly. If you suspect a lens is off center, cover the other eye; if the vision is blurred, it means the lens isn’t on the cornea. This is no cause for alarm; the lens cannot get lost behind the eye because of the anatomical barriers. The lens will not harm the eye; theoretically it could remain on the sclera for days without adverse effects. However, a decentered lens does your vision no good.
METHOD # 1 Centering Soft Contact Lens
Close your eyelids and rotate your eyeballs in both directions. The lens should automatically recenter itself over the cornea.
METHOD #2 Centering Soft Contact Lens
Close the eyelids and look down. Gently massage the lens onto the cornea through the closed upper eyelid, using the tip of your index finger.
METHOD #3 Centering Soft Contact Lens
With the eyes left open, look into a mirror and gently massage the lens toward the cornea by nudging it with the edge of the upper or lower lid.
Removing Soft Contact Lens
Always make sure the lens is centered on the cornea before attempting to remove it.
After removal clean the lens thoroughly, using either a surfactant cleaning solution or saline solution; then the next day disinfect the lens before inserting again.
METHOD #1 Removing Soft Contact Lens
- Look up and open eyelids wide.
- Pull the lower eyelid down with the middle finger of the right hand.
- Place the tip of the index finger of the right hand on the lens.
- Slide the lens down onto the white of the eye.
- With the thumb and index finger of the right hand, gently fold or pinch the lens together.
- Remove the lens.
METHOD #2 Removing Soft Contact Lens
Same as Method # 1 except that you:
Look toward the nose.
- Place the tip of the index finger of the right hand on the lens.
- Slide the lens to the right of the eye toward the outer corner of the eye.
- Pinch the lens together and remove it.
