You can even swim with these lenses, providing you don’t dive into the water or keep your eyes wide open. You should remove them if you plan to swim in a chlorinated pool. Travelers especially appreciate the convenience of not having to remove and clean their lenses nightly. There is no extra bulk and weight of contact lens accessories to lug around during trips. They are a particular boon to campers, who often have to abandon their soft lenses while roughing it.

Patients who have difficulty or are nervous about insertion, removal, cleaning, and handling contact lenses enjoy a tremendous reduction in these problems. This is of special importance for the person who has undergone cataract extraction, or who has a physical disability such as arthritis or tremors. But it’s also a tremendous time-saver for those with busy schedules or who just don’t want to bother with the daily routine of caring for contact lenses. An important aspect is the fact that there’s less risk of tearing the lens since handling of the lenses is reduced. There is also less chance of an allergic reaction to preservatives in the solutions since the lenses and the eyes are exposed to them less often. Finally the initial costs are somewhat offset by the less frequent use of contact lens solutions and the lower incidence of lost or damaged lenses.
